A New Green Pages Website For The Midlands

A new green pages website for the Midlands region was launched recently. The Midlands Green Pages covers the counties of central England and enables the public to find green businesses in their local area, as well as information about living a green living.

The website provides a regional directory which lists environmentally friendly companies, organisations, services and products. From where to buy cloth nappies to finding information about woodland burial sites, green gifts and eco wedding services, all this and more can be found on the website. The Midlands Green Pages will also include the latest green news stories, local campaigns and will include details of local green events.

Website founder Kate Haines founder of the national eco website GreenFinder is based in Leamington Spa where she runs both websites from her dining room table. She said "Since setting up GreenFinder almost three years ago I've met a great many small business owners based in the midlands like myself who work from small shops, studios or home offices that provide great green services and products".

"Being a Midlander born and bred and being passionate about the 'shop local, shop green message' I thought it was the ideal time to set up a regional green directory. Every pound spent with a local supplier or business is worth £1.76 to the local economy yet only 36 pence if it is spent out of the area so it's really important for the economy of the Midlands that Midlanders support their local businesses".

St John Ambulance Gloucestershire is the latest charity to be added to our Charity Feature section on Stallfinder. This charity makes a difference by ensuring that everyone who needs it should receive first aid from those around them and believes no one should suffer for the lack of trained first aiders.

Team Altitude Charity Climb & Fundraising Christmas Shopping Evening

An appeal from Deb Hunt of Team Attitude at Altitude

"Following my diagnosis of Breast Cancer on April Fools Day 2008, myself and 3 great friends have decided to drag our backsides up Mt Kilimanjaro to raise £20,000 for Breakthrough Breast Cancer. We are four ordinary mums, all forty something, all unfit with no trekking experience but all wanting to make a difference. We hope that our trek will raise awareness of breast cancer and the funds raised will help prevent other women from suffering the indignity of losing a breast or losing their hair through the treatment.

Our fundraising initiatives include a 2010 calendar of local business men, called Chaps for Baps! and a Christmas Shopping Evening to be held at The Holt Hotel Nr Steeple Aston OX25 5QQ on 25th November 2009. Information about our mission, the trek, our fund-raising and all the events we have organised can be found on our website www.twin-peaks.co.uk and you can follow us on Twitter, we are 4pinkbras.

We have called ourselves Team Attitude at Altitude. Please join us in our aim to be free of the fear of breast cancer for good by supporting either the calendar (it can be purchased on the website at £6.95 + p&p) or attending our Christmas Shopping evening where all the stall-holder fees will be donated to the charity".

Jessica's Trust

Jessica's Trust is the latest charity to be added to our Charity Feature section on Stallfinder.

The charity was setup by Ben Palmer after his wife Jessica died in June 2004, at 34 years old, of childbed fever caused by Group A streptococcus, six days after the uncomplicated birth of her second child. Childbed fever is an infection of the womb in new mothers which can lead to septicaemia.
Jessica's Trust would like as many people as possible to sign their Maternal Health Petition to the Prime Minister to ensure that every new mother has regular observations recorded on a Modified Early Obstetric Warning System (MEOWS) chart in hospital and in the community and is given clear information and advice on the recognition of childbed fever (also known as puerperal fever and genital tract sepsis) and that doctors and midwives are given clear sepsis guidelines.

Everyclick for Fundraising

Stallfinder has added Everyclick into our section on Fundraising.

Everyclick is a one-stop fundraising website which features over 200,000 registered UK charities. It is free to use for both fundraisers and charities and means that even the smallest charity has a means to collect donations and fundraising online.

There are six ways you can fundraise with Everyclick:

  • Search the web – Everyclick is a search engine, powered by Ask.com, which gives 50% of its revenue to charity
  • Create an appeal – fundraisers can set up a fundraising page and collect sponsorship for their chosen charity.
  • Make a donation – you can donate to any of 200,000 UK charities by debit or credit card using Everyclick’s secure payment system.
  • Send greetings – in exchange for a donation to the charity of your choice (or the recipient’s choice) you can send greetings cards.
  • Send eVouchers as a gift – buy an eVoucher and the recipient can then choose the charity they would like the donation to go to.
  • Go shopping – shop online and a percentage of your purchases goes to charity.

  • Charities receive their own homepage URL which their supporters will see – they can customise their homepage with images and text. Charities can also add details and news stories to their information pages.

There are several tools and widgets for both fundraisers and charities to encourage people to help them raise money across the web.

    Stallfinder & School Together Now.com

Many thanks to Esther at School Together Now.com for promoting Stallfinder on her site. We've added School Together Now to our Useful Websites section:

As seen on BBC Breakfast, School Together Now.com is a free social website aimed at school children and their parents. It aims to unite the local community surrounding our schools whilst revolutionising the way education is funded in Britain. Parents and children are grouped by the school they attend and can send and receive messages, play fun online games and chat in the forum. For the parents there's also a Job Board and Classified Ads directory where they can source local products and services. Schools benefit as 20% of the advertising revenue from these Classified Ads is donated back into the school fundraising pot. The website is very safe and child security is the number one priority.
